About NW Community Alliance

Formerly Clatsop County Developmental Training Center Association dba Coast Rehabilitation Services (CRS), NW Community Alliance is a 501 (c) (3) organization that currently provides a variety of services, including residential, employment, supported employment, supported living, in-home care, day supports, to people who need assistance beyond their current abilities, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NW Community Alliance is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

NW Community Alliance has been supporting people since 1973. The agency was formed by a grass roots movement of parents who had children with disabilities. The parents did not want to see their children referred to the large institutions operated by the state and were wanting to offer meaningful work activities in their home community of Astoria, Oregon.Upon establishing the agency, NW Community Alliance began offering work activities to the children of these pioneering parents.

Toward the end of the 70s, NW Community Alliance also began offering residential supports to people with disabilities. We are proud to be able to say NW Community Alliance provided the first five person home in the state of Oregon for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), which for that time in the evolution of I/DD supports was innovative. This model eventually became the standard for the state of Oregon. The five person model that is provided across the state today is a direct result of the model developed by NW Community Alliance in the late 70s and early 80s.

Today NW Community Alliance continues to be innovative and pursue methods that allow poeple to be more self-fulfilled, independent and interdependent in the community. NW Community Alliance firmly believes that everyone has a choice in creating a life of their choosing.
